Redhawks blast RNE, prep to open 4A playoffs

BLYTHEWOOD – The Westwood softball team walloped Richland Northeast 17-1 in three innings Thursday to close out the regular season 12-8.

Pitchers Annarea Wilson and Makayla Drakeford combined for a no-hit effort on the mound.

Azaria Belton led at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in. Jada McConnell, Olivia Burroughs, and Taryn Jenkins had two hits apiece. McConnell, Marguerite Ridgeway, Nayanna Shannon, and Farrah Burke all hit triples for Westwood.

Westwood traveled to Catawba Ridge Wednesday to open the District 3 upper state tournament, but scores were not available at press time. Win or lose, the Redhawks will hit the road Friday to play either Westside or Laurens.
