Griffin baseball, softball end playoff runs

WINNSBORO – After dropping a one-run 1st round game to Liberty in the SCHSL 2A state tourney, Fairfield (11-10) fell to Fox Creek 7-1 on Thursday, ending their playoff run.

Leading 2-1 in the top of the fifth with two outs, Fox Creek plated five runs in the frame to extend their lead 7-1.

Graeme Douglas went 2-3 for Fairfield. Yohance Harrison and Jonathan Warren each doubled in the game; Harrison had Fairfield’s lone RBI.

Blake Gambrell took the loss from the mound. He surrendered seven runs on ten hits over four and two-thirds innings of work. He struck out six and walked three. Tyon Belton pitched the remainder of the game. He struck out one and allowed three hits.

SOFTBALL- The Griffin softball team also dropped their elimination game after a first round loss to Liberty. Fairfield faced Silver Bluff last Friday in Winnsboro.

The Bulldogs took a 6-0 lead in the second and Fairfield was unable to recover, falling with an 18-0 final in five innings to Silver Bluff.

Briana Boulware, Aryannah Qualls, Symra Thomas and Amari Cook each singled.

Myah McMillian took the loss. She faced 38 batters in 5 innings, allowing 18 runs on 15 hits. She walked eight and struck out four.
