BHS, WHS run in Lake Murray Invitational

CHAPIN – Blythewood and Westwood cross country runners represented well at the Lake Murray Invitational in Chapin on Saturday.

Runner highlights on the day were top-10 finishes by Blythewood’s Jacob Powell and Westwood’s Emma Ashley. Powell’s 16:15.20 finish put him in eighth place out of 286 runners on the day. Ashley pulled a seventh place finish out of 238 runners with a time of 19:14.6.

Blythewood Boys

Powell led the way for Blythewood’s boys team, which finished in fourth place out of 35 teams. Spencer Shealy was the second Bengal to cross the finish line with a 16:42.50 finish for 24th place overall. Graysen Manning came in 32nd place at 16:54.30. Eureka Washington crossed the line at 17:27.00 for 56th place, and Dillan Boyer placed 62nd with a 17:34.80 finish to complete the Bengal scores. Blythewood’s Karlin Hogue (19:23.40) and Jackson Smith (19:28.00) also had sub-20 minute finishes.

The Bengals (178) finished behind Chapin (104), Greenbrier (150) and Catawba Ridge (163).

Blythewood Girls

With a handful of season-best finishes, Blythewood’s girls team finished in 5th place out of 30 teams. Mallorie Hogue led the Bengal girls with a 14th place finish on a time of 19:37.30, her season-high. Also with season-best times were Anna Kelly, Eva Pendleton, Jurnee Warren, Judeah Warren, Annabelle Manville and Scarlett Baker.

Kelly finished in 19th place overall with a 19:45 time. Pendleton followed at 20:18.40 for 36th place. Jurnee Warren finished in 75th at 21:49.40, and Judeah Warren finished at 21:59.30 for 85th place.

Blythewood’s girls (217) finished behind Heathwood Hall (31), Dorman (79), Chapin (79), and Riverside (191). Westwood’s girls finished 13th with a score of 435.

Westwood Girls

Emma Ashley’s 7th place finish was her fastest of the season so far. Her sister, Rebecca Ashley, was Westwood’s second finisher at 20:16.70 for 34th place. Christina Tyndall finished 83rd at 21:59.00. Jamiya Carter and Abigail Forrest rounded out Westwood’s scores with their season-best times. Cater finished at 23:47 for 165th place, and Forrest finished at 25:59.10.

Westwood Boys

Blaize Owen had the fastest time for Westwood’s boys. Owen finished at 19:50.60 for 186th place overall. Behind Owen, Westwood runners all clocked their fastest times of the season. Augustin Serrano finished at 20:53.20; Michael Serrano finished at 21:16.40; Bryce Washington had a 21:39.30 finish; and Tristen Hudson had a 21:40.20 finish.

The Bengals returned to action on Sept. 20, but times were not available at The Voice’s press deadline. Both schools are scheduled to run in the Mike More Classic at Saluda Shoals Park on Saturday.
