Redhawks move to 5-0 in region

BLYTHEWOOD – Westwood’s volleyball team cruised to 5-0 in region play as they notched their 10th win of the season over Richland Northeast on Tuesday.  The Redhawks easily handled the Cavaliers with 25-5, 25-9 and 25-5 finals.

The win comes on the heels of a 3-0 non-conference win against Camden last Wednesday. Westwood bested Camden 25-18, 25-18 and 25-13.

Camryn Jeffery led the Redhawks with 10 kills in 19 attempts. Senior Damia Ellis hit .800%, notching 8 kills and no errors in 10 attempts. Lilly Almada and Maya Jones had five kills each. Aria Caldwell added three.

Jeffery also had team-high nine total blocks (five solo) and 18 digs in the win. Caldwell and Keyonna Morgan had three solo blocks each.  Jones tallied 15 digs; Caldwell and Ellis had 14 each. Almada tallied one ace in 16 points served. Ellis served for 10 points and had 13 assists.

Westwood (10-1) currently sits atop 4A Region 5, ahead of Lugoff-Elgin (3-2) and AC Flora (1-1). Deep into region play, they are slated to host Flora tonight at 7 p.m. at The Castle, then will travel to Lugoff-Elgin on Oct. 3 before hosting Ridge View on Oct. 5.
