MT. PLEASANT – Coming off of their best regular season in recent years, Westwood volleyball took the SC High School League’s Class 4A playoffs by storm. After a first round bye, the Redhawks hosted Myrtle Beach 3-0 last on Oct. 24.

One of only eight teams remaining, Westwood hit the road to face Lucy Beckham in Mt. Pleasant on Oct. 26. After falling 25-15 in the first game and 25-15 in the second, Westwood pushed past the Bengals to take the third game 28-26. Down 2-1, Westwood fell just short in game four as Lucy Beckham took the 25-21 win and eliminated Westwood from playoff contention.

The win over Westwood advanced Lucy Beckham to a Halloween final-four game against North Myrtle Beach. Lucy Beckham fell 3-1. North Myrtle Beach advances to play for the state title against South Aiken on Saturday.

Westwood’s Damia Ellis was named to the Class 4A/5A South All-Star team. She’ll face off against Blythewood High School’s Madalyn Jones, who was named to the 4A/5A North team. All Star games will be held Nov. 18 at Brookland-Cayce High School.
