Sarah Mattox

Sarah was born on June 25, 1935 to John Davis and Sara Louise Allen and passed from this life on February 6, 2024 at 88 years young. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers: John Jr, Marion, James, Fletcher, and David; sisters: Louise, Lillie Belle, Helen, Beulah, and a baby girl who did not survive her birth. She was married to Jack Leroy Mattox for 60 years before his passing in 2013.

She is survived by her son: Dale (Tracy); granddaughters, Mevy (Rob Mclean), Savannah (Blake Webber); and great grandchildren, Claire, Oliver, and Delen.

Sarah was the matriarch and center orbit of her family. A true Blythewood native, she only lived outside her extended family location near Blythewood for a few years when she joined her husband, Jack, during his active-duty service in the USAF stationed at Griffiss AFB, NY. Returning first to Columbia, then back to Blythewood, where she remained until her passing.

The funeral service for Mrs. Mattox was held at 2 o’clock, Saturday, February 10th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1391 Centerville Rd., Ridgeway, SC. Burial followed in Centerville Cemetery, Ridgeway, SC. The family recieved friends from 4 until 6 o’clock, Friday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.

The family wishes to thank, with deepest love, the MUSC Hospice Group, RN Case Manager Jolene, Social Worker Cindy, Chaplain Andrew, Aide Lashemia, and Bishop Ryan McGary, for their compassion and support during this difficult time.
