Mother Naomi Robertson Waden, 101, (affectionately called “Buster” by her family as a child) was born on Dec. 9, 1921, the second beloved daughter of the late Rev. George W. Robertson, Sr. and Mattie Gibson Robertson in the Longtown community of Ridgeway, SC. God in His infinite wisdom summoned Naomi from this walk of life and she transitioned to her heavenly home Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at the Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC.
Naomi attended public school in Fairfield and Richland Counties. She was employed by the Richland County School District Two as a cafeteria worker and retired after 30 years of service.
Naomi was a charter member of the Blythewood Community Senior’s Ladies Club and was an active participant until her health started to decline in the last year of her life. She enjoyed cooking, working in her flower beds, traveling to different destination by land or by sea, talking on the phone with her friends for hours, and last but not least she was a advid reader of the Bible, Our Daily Bread, Daily Devotionals, and just about anything that had God’s word written in it.
From an early age, Naomi embraced her faith, accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a dedicated member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Ridgeway, South Carolina where she faithfully attended Sunday School, regular church services, and bible study. She served as a member and as President of the Missionary Society, and sang in the Jubilee Choir, which was a part of the #1 Singing Convention. She was often asked to be the guest speaker for various programs that were held by Missionary Societies of other churches in the community. Naomi enjoyed sharing God’s word with anyone she could get to listen and her favorite topic was Love. One of her most favorite songs was “Love Lifted Me.” In 1995, Naomi ‘s father came to her in a dream and told her she needed to move her membership to Calvary Baptist Church. She was obedient to his request and became a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She worked diligently at Calvary Baptist Church of Blythewood as Mother of Church, participating in the Women’s Ministry, singing in the Jubilee Choir, as well as being present at all services and programs held at the church until her death. Naomi loved the Lord, loved her family, and friends {especially children}; and has left a legacy of love to all who loved and knew her.
Naomi was united in holy matrimony to the late Reed Waden, Sr. for 23 years; and they were blessed with six wonderful children.
In addition to her husband and parents, Naomi was preceded in death by her siblings Inez Goines, George W. Robertson, Jr., Josephine Kelly, Arthur Y. Robertson, Vernetta Hall, and Ernest Robertson.
Two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two step-sons, Reed James and Ernest “Buddy Boy” Belton.
This incredible gem leaves many precious memories with her children, Mozell W. McCorkle of Ridgeway, SC, Dorothy C. Horton of Blythewood, SC, Reed Waden, Jr. of Rock Hill, SC, Rev. Samuel J. (Della) Waden, I of Blythewood, SC, Mildred W. (John W.) Johnson-Jones, and M. Elaine Waden both of Columbia; her devoted Sister Mrs. Mattie Lois Squirewell of Winnsboro, SC; and her brother Mr. Curtis Robertson, Sr.; 19 Grandchildren, 45 Great Grandchildren, 17 Great Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends, and multitude of surrogate sons and daughters, who will miss her dearly.
