LEXINGTON – Westwood boys basketball cleaned house at Lexington High School over the Thanksgiving week, finishing with a 3-0 record and a preseason tournament title under their belts.
The Redhawks opened play on Nov. 25 against Fox Creek and came away with a 56-43 win.
Dmarcus Thomas led with 16 points and five assists. Daytron Cockfield had nine points and 6 rebounds. Sean Goddard had eight points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks.
The next day, they dominated Ben Lippen School from tipoff. Up 22-10 after a quarter, they held a 35-22 lead by halftime.
The Redhawks put up 25 points in the third quarter and held the Falcons to 17, then closed out the game with a 79-53 final.
Thomas led again with 23 points. McGill and Goddard had 12 points each. Cockfield had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Westwood faced off with Lexington on their home court for the tournament championship on Wednesday and finished with a 59-44 win over the Wildcats.
Jayden Crews had 24 points and seven rebounds in the title win. Thomas had 10 points and five assists. Goddard finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
The Redhawks opened regular season play on Wednesday at home against White Knoll, but scores were not available before The Voice’s press deadline.
They will host Richland-Northeast Friday at 7:30 p.m., then face Gray collegiate on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the Stars & Stripes Showcase.
