BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood High School boys’ wrestling team opened the season on Dec. 4 with a sweep at home of Dreher, Swansea, and Brookland-Cayce high schools. They dominated with 60-18 win over Dreher, 57-17 win over Swansea, and a 66-12 win over Brookland-Cayce.
The Bengals claimed third place out of 23 teams at the Hornet Hammer on Dec. 7 in Aiken. Blythewood finished with 176.5 points behind first place Aiken (226) and AC Flora (204). Junior Elijah Johnson took first place at 150lbs. Seniors Desmond Macklin (165lbs) and Rolland Boisvert (113lbs) both claimed second in their weight divisions.
Blythewood returned home to host Midland Valley, Catawba Ridge, and Dutch Fork on Dec. 11. Midland Valley and Catawba Ridge put up battles, but the Bengals finished 3-0 on the day again. Blythewood beat Midlands Valley 45-34, Catawba Ridge 44-35, and Dutch Fork 52-22.
The Bengals defeated Edisto 67-12 and Nation Ford 48-26 on Dec. 17, then made another 3-0 sweep on Dec. 18 at AC Flora. Blythewood took a 55-18 win over Flora, 71-9 win over Gray Collegiate Academy, and an 84-0 win over Ridge View on Dec. 18.
Boisvert secured win number 116 on the Dec. 18 meet to become the all-time leader in wins for the Bengal wrestling program. The previous record (115) was set by Rylan Madison during the 2023-2024 season.
Blythewood returns to the mat on Jan. 7 at River Bluff, when they’ll face the Gators and Aiken.
