BLYTHEWOOD – The Bengal boys, currently ranked 16th in the state, downed their second top-10 team in a week’s time.
Following their upset of No. 4 River Bluff last week, the Bengals toppled No. 10 Rock Hill on Monday with a 49-26 final.
Junior Jeremy Galloway (HWY)’s pin was a highlight on the night.
The win moves Blythewood to 13-1 on the season.
Blythewood hosted a quad match on Wednesday against Ridge View, Chester, and American Leadership Academy. Scores were not available prior to The Voice’s press deadline.
The Bengals are set to wrestle at JL Mann this weekend for the Patriot Duals.
The 5A Region 5 Individual Tournament is set for Jan. 22 at Lugoff-Elgin. Region 5 Duals will also be at Lugoff-Elgin on Jan. 25.
The Bengals will close out the regular season with a tri-match at home on Jan. 28 against Camden and Columbia.
Blythewood Girls
On Monday, Blythewood High School’s girls wrestling team put up a fight against a stout defending two-time state champion Rock Hill team, but they fell short. Rock Hill took the match by a 60-18 margin.
“We have some things to clean up, and we have got to get it fixed by Jan. 25,” said Bengal head coach Paul Watson. “A few things here and there and this final score tonight would have been 48-30 or even closer.”
The loss put Blythewood, its program still in infancy, at 3-2 on the season.
With just one day to recover, the Bengals were back in action on Wednesday as they hosted two top-five teams, Clover and Chester, for a tri-meet.
Scores for the meet were not available before The Voice’s press deadline.
Following Monday’s loss, Watson said he keyed in on some specific things and looked forward to getting the team back in the practice room on Thursday to drill as the regular season winds down.
