BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood High School’s girls wrestling program opened their season on Dec. 5 and cemented themselves in the program’s history books – hosting the first girls dual match in school history that day against White Knoll.
The Bengals, ranked sixth currently, defeated White Knoll 65-12. Sophomore Khloe Ortiz dominated at 110lbs. Junior Zoey Pyatt and freshman Makenna Yeary, both first-year wrestlers, got their first varsity wins at 125lbs and 130lbs respectively.
Ortiz, Yeary, Kami Burba, Audra Petroff and Abby Ely all finished in first place at the Woodruff High School Lady Wolverine Classic on Dec. 7. Burba, a sophomore, wrestles at 140lbs; Petroff, a junior, is in 155lbs, and Ely, a senior, is at 190lbs. Junior Eurora Daunheimer placed second at 100lbs, and middle schooler Paisley Repka took second at 140lbs.
On Dec. 13, the Blythewood squad placed second in the Greenwood High Ladies Invitational. Daunheimer, Tiyanna Mack (130lbs), Petroff and Ely claimed first place. Ortiz and Emma Hursey (120lbs) took second place. Pyatt, Burba, Gabby Cook (170lbs), Kennedy Mitchell (HWY), and Repka all finished in third place.
Blythewood closed the 2024 portion of the season with two wins over 5A squads at Ashley Ridge High School. In the first dual match, the Bengals downed Ashley Ridge 60-16, with Pyatt scoring a big pin. Pins from Burba and Daunheimer helped secure a 42-30 win over Wando and move Blythewood to 3-0 on the season.
The Bengals return to the mat on Jan. 7 at River Bluff.
