Eagle teams get back-to-back wins

WINNSBORO – The Eagles are on win streaks. Both varsity teams snagged wins in their last two games.

Last Thursday, the Eagle girls stomped King Academy with a 72-28 region win.

Up 21-4 after a quarter, the Eagles allowed 10 points from the Knights in the second quarter, the only period they’d reach double digits. With a 39-14 lead at halftime, the Eagles gave up only 14 points in the second half en-route to their 44-point win.

The followed suit with a 58-25 win over Whitmire in Winnsboro on Monday.

This time, the Eagles’ dominance extended into the second quarter as they took a 31-7 lead into halftime. A slower third quarter put score at 39-15. The Eagles regained their footing in the fourth to outscore the Wolverines by nine.

Abby Lewis put up 20 points in the Whitmire win. She also had eight rebounds, six steals and five assists. Haley Autry had 20 rebounds, 12 points, four steals and three assists on the night.  Brantley Caulder chipped in 10 points and six rebounds. Eighth grader Kate Baker had a team-high 10 assists and seven steals. Charlotte Lewis had 14 rebounds.

The wins move the Eagles to 6-5 overall, 1-1 in region play.

The Eagle boys picked up wins 9 and 10 in their last two games.

Following a 49-14 win over King Academy, they took down Cambridge with a 69-45 final.

Seniors Charlie Bonds and Colin Davis did much of the Eagles offense’s heavy lifting.

Bonds led the Eagles with 19 points against King; Davis had a team-high 23 points against Cambridge. Bennett Nicholson had 23 points in the two-game stretch.

The Eagle boys (10-3) regained their perch atop the region, where they sit with a 6-0 record.

Both Eagle teams played on Wednesday, but scores were not available by The Voice’s press deadline.  They’ll travel to Wardlaw on Jan. 21 for more region play as they face the back-half of their seasons.
