Jerry Ban

Jerry Ban, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of his community, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on December 12, 2024, at Memorial Health Meadows in Vidalia.  Born on Thursday, June 28, 1934, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, Jerry’s life was a testament to his hard work, dedication to family, and love for the land.

When Jerry and family moved to Lumber City GA in 1968, it was to help his father-in-law operate a six-house chicken farm; later he added farming and raising cows.  He also served his community for fifteen years as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service.  He served as a ASCS Committee Member, Farm Bureau President, and Telfair County Commissioner.  He was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Jerry worked hard, loved his family, and served his community well, but at the same time, he believed “Why Should Life all Labor be”?  He loved anything that offered competition.  At age 76 he won the Bronze Medal in his class, at the Sprint Triathlon World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

Jerry’s journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his beloved wife, Jeanette Pullen Ban of Lumber City, with whom he built a beautiful life and family. Together, they raised five remarkable children: Michael Stephen Ban of Lumber City, Karen Fields (Ronnie) of McRae-Helena, Natalie Colvin (Mitch) of Titusville, Florida, Alice Winterbottom (Jon) of Lumber City, and Tiffani Hill (Greg) of Rocky Mount, Virginia. Jerry took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, each of whom he adored and cherished deeply.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Jeffers Ban, brother Charles, and grandson, Garrett Czappa.

As we bid farewell to Jerry, we reflect on a life that was full and meaningful. Though he has left this world, his spirit remains a guiding light for his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
