
COLUMBIA – Midlands STEM Charter School’s robotics teams, Team RocketForge and Mecha Mavericks, competed in the SC First Tech Challenge Midlands qualifiers at Crayton Middle School in Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 18.
During robot and field inspections, RocketForge had to make robot before match play. At the end of qualifier matches, RocketForge was seeded fourth with a 5-1 record. Mecha Mavericks finished in seventh with a 3-2 record. Both finishes are program bests in state qualifier events.
During playoffs, the RocketForge was eliminated in the second round after suffering a significant mechanical issues that severely challenged their ability to score. They finished with a final ranking of fourth for the event.
The Mecha Mavericks, allied with the Sea Dawgs from Kershaw, made it to the third round of playoffs and were honored with a Judge’s Choice award for the second year in a row at this level of competition.
The Mecha Mavericks will advance to the SC FIRST Tech Challenge Championships Feb. 21 and 22 at Dreher High School in Columbia.
