Griffin teams on win streak

WINNSBORO – Both Fairfield Central basketball squads are on a win streak.

The Griffin boys are on fire in the new year, going 10-0 since they opened play up in January. Last week, the team downed Columbia 48-44 and Mid-Carolina 44-41. They followed with a 62-42 win over Mid-Carolina on Monday and a huge 70-33 win over Chester on Tuesday.

In this week’s wins, Desmond Edmonds had a combined 27 points; Thomas Johnson tallied 23 points; and Jaden Mozie had 21 points.

The Griffins, now 14-6, currently are perched atop the SCHSL AA Region 3 with a 9-0 record.

Following a 65-52 loss to Mid-Carolina last week, the Griffin girls topped the Rebels in Monday’s rematch with a 53-31 final. They followed with a 60-22 win over Chester on Tuesday.

The wins move Fairfield to 9-10 on the season and 4-3 in region play.

The Griffin teams closed out regular season play on Wednesday against Clinton, but scores were not available prior to The Voice’s press deadline. 

Both teams await 2A bracket release for state playoffs, which are set to begin Feb. 18.
