Angelika “Angie” Floyd

Angelika “Angie” Floyd (nee Giesche), 89, passed away on March 19th, 2025, in Ingram, Texas. Born on February 13th, 1936, in Nieder-Modau, Germany, Angie lived a life full of color, resilience, and an unyielding zest for living.

Her early years were marked by hardship as she grew up in Germany during World War II. Despite the challenges she faced during that time, Angie’s spirit remained undiminished. If anything, those experiences instilled in her a deep appreciation for life’s blessings. She often shared these words of wisdom with her family: “Don’t look up so much to others who have more than you do; look down and see what you have and be grateful for it.” Words to live by.

After completing school in Germany, Angie began working as a secretary before eventually meeting and marrying a young Air Force sergeant from South Carolina, Bennie Floyd. Their first daughter, Barbara, was born in 1958 at Landstuhl Army Hospital in Germany. Their next assignment was March Air Force Base, in Riverside, California, where their second daughter, Arleen, was born. Mom said her first impression of the United States was sunshine and palm trees! They moved back to Germany and then stateside again to their last assignment at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. Bennie retired and moved the growing family back to his hometown of Winnsboro, South Carolina, where their third daughter, Cinthia, was born in 1970.

Once in South Carolina, Angie pursued a new career as a hair stylist and later became the proud owner of The Glamour Nook in Winnsboro. She was a hard worker who poured her energy into her business, ensuring every customer left feeling beautiful! Her daughters fondly recall their time spent helping at the salon – answering the phone, making appointments, and helping customers – memories that will last a lifetime!

Angie had an adventurous spirit and embraced life with enthusiasm. She loved bright colors (red to be exact), dancing to beach music (the shag), traveling, and good food and music. She loved everything from Elvis to Pavarotti! Later in life, she developed an interest in the stock market – a passion that left her family convinced that had she started earlier in life it would have resulted in millions!

Angie found happiness in tending to her yard and plants. Her home was always filled with blooming flowers and green plants, inside and outside, along with little sprigs of greenery found rooting in small vases on her kitchen windowsill.

Angie is survived by her three daughters: Barbara (Bob), Arleen (David), and Cindy; her beloved granddaughter Morgan; her brother Dieter Giesche; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Royce Floyd; her mother Erna Spiese Giesche; her brother Richard Giesche; her sisters Sigrid Giesche Schollenberger and Irmtraut Giesche Huthmann.

Angie’s vibrant personality and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring a smile to the faces of those who cherished her presence.
