Mrs. Peggy Gladden Hensley, 79, of Winnsboro passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Mendel Gladden and Maude Bass Gladden.
She is survived by her husband, Richard (Dick) Samuel Hensley; son, Guerry Hensley (Kay); sister, Carolyn Edens; and two grandchildren, Richard Gunnar Hensley (Katie); and Sybil Grier Hensley.
In addition to her parents, Peggy is predeceased by two sisters, Linda Shirley, and Sybil Robinson.
Peggy was devoted to her family. She enjoyed shopping with her sisters, going to the beach to hunt for shark teeth and following her grandchildren’s sporting events and multiple extracurricular activities. Peggy was a basketball superstar in high school and an avid reader throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of Stephen Greene Baptist Church, serving on various committees.
Peggy loved Fairfield County and was employed in the Auditor’s Office for 40 plus years. She served as County Auditor from 2002 until her retirement in June of 2023.
A memorial service celebrating her life was held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Stephen Greene Baptist Church in Winnsboro. The family received friends after the service in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stephen Greene Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the Fairfield County Library.
