BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood’s boys and girls soccer teams both received first round byes in the SCHSL 5A D1 state playoffs after dominating region play during the regular season. Both teams claimed their respective region crowns.
The Bengal boys finished the regular season with a 5-0 win over Sumter on Friday. The win moved them to 11-1 in region play – their only region loss was to West Florence in mid-March.
Sitting at 18-3-1 on the season, the Bengals earned a two-seed and are set to face the winner of Clover/Byrnes on Saturday, May 10 in Blythewood. The winner will advance to the Upper State semi-finals on March 14.
Blythewood’s girls also downed Sumter on Friday with a 4-0 final. With only one loss on the season (a 2-1 loss to Lexington in early March), the Bengal girls wrapped with a 12-0 record in region play.
Earning a one-seed, Blythewood (16-1-1) will host Dorman at 7 p.m. on Friday to battle for a spot in the Upper State semifinals. Dorman defeated Wade Hampton 3-2 in the first round. A win will advance them to face the winner of River Bluff/Lexington on May 13.
