Bengals down Clover, face Lexington in round 3

BLYTHEWOOD – After a first round bye in the Division 1 5A State Playoffs, Blythewood has advanced to the semifinal game of the Upper State bracket.

With a two-seed, the Bengals faced Clover on Saturday for round two. Clover downed Byrnes 1-0 to open playoffs, but Blythewood posed a bigger threat to the Blue Eagles. Up 1-0 at halftime, the Bengals stretched their lead to 3-1 by the end of regulation.

Daulton Purcell, Christian Paez, and Cayden Berzins scored Blythewood’s three goals. Purcell, Berzins and Ryan Hall had assists. Paez and Berzins both scored off of penalty kicks.

Sophomore Brandon Hart had seven saves in the win.

The Bengals (19-3-1) faced three-seeded Lexington on Wednesday, but the final score was not available prior to The Voice’s press deadline.

The winner advances to the Upper State Championship game on May 17, when they will face the winner of JL Mann/Wade Hampton. Lexington (17-6) beat Dutch Fork 3-0 in round two of the playoffs.
