BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood baseball team notched its fifth 20-plus win season in the last six years after posting victories over White Knoll Friday, Ridge View Monday, and Lexington Tuesday.
With the Region 5-5A championship clinched early last week,
the Bengals (21-4, 8-2 Region 5-5A) shut out the Timberwolves 11-0 in five
innings, blanked the Blazers 19-0 in three innings, and rallied past the
defending 5A state champion Wildcats 8-5.

The Wildcats (15-9-1, 10-3 Region 4-5A) proved a much tougher opponent.

Christian Spivey evened the score with a 2-run home run to get things started for Lexington in the bottom of the third. The Wildcats scored two more runs to take a 4-2 lead by the end of the inning.
The wheels came off of the Lexington defense in the top of the fourth and the Bengals took advantage, scoring six runs off of four walks, three hits and an error to take an 8-4 lead.
Lexington got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but it came when Spivey hit into a double play.
Starting pitcher Johnny Collins got the win, but Andrew Blackwell threw three innings of no-hit ball to get the save.
Leppert, Melendez, Counts, and Franklin had two hits apiece. Alex Myers had two RBI.
