
BLYTHEWOOD – Twelve Redhawk seniors inked their collegiate plans on Wednesday, May 7 in a signing ceremony at Westwood High School.
Thanna Davis signed her commitment to continue her track and field career at Augusta University. In the 2025 season at Westwood, Davis competed in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes. She also made appearances in the 800 meter run, high jump, javelin and shot put events during the season. Davis placed fifth in the 400m dash at the recent SCHSL 5A D2 State meet with a time of 58.92, setting her new personal best. Davis was a member of Westwood’s 2023 track and field state championship team. She was also a member of Westwood’s girls’ basketball and volleyball teams. She was named All-Region in volleyball during her senior season.
Marguerite Ridgeway will continue her softball career at Columbia College. Ridgeway, who also plays with the Crushers travel team, sees time at catcher, first and third bases, and outfield. In Westwood’s playoff win over Myrtle Beach, Ridgeway went two-for-four with two doubles and five RBIs.
A’mira Coleman signed to Claflin University’s track and field program. In the 2025 outdoor season, Coleman competed in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run. She set a 2:41.42 PR in the 800 meter run April 11 at the All American Track Classic. Coleman was a member of Westwood’s 2023 track and field state championship team.
Ako Taylor plans to continue his football career at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. Taylor, a defensive back, was a team captain for the Redhawks and a Richland County Player of the Year Nominee. In his senior season, Taylor had 38 solo tackles and 14 assists. He averaged 4.2 tackles per game, had three tackles for loss, five sacks, and forced one fumble.
Christian Smith will continue his football career at Erskine College. The cornerback played in 10 games for Westwood his senior season, tallying 26 solo tackles and 13 assists. He had two interceptions and one tackle for loss.
Destiny Omeire plans to play basketball for United States Air Force Academy. The four year veteran for Westwood averaged 5.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in her Redhawk career. She tallied 166 points, 130 rebounds, 44 assists, 44 steals and five blocked shots in her senior season.
Lilly Almada will continue her volleyball career at Columbia College. A three-year veteran for the Redhawks, Almada reached 776 career assists with 535 in her senior season. She had 429 career digs, 254 kills, 165 service receptions, 81 aces, and 73 blocks. Almada helped lead Westwood to their 12-0 region title in her senior season. She was named All-Region and All-State and was selected to play in the North/South All-Star game in the 2024-2025 season.
Derrick Rodney Brown will attend Coker College in Hartsville, SC to play men’s basketball. In two seasons with the Redhawks, Brown averaged 3.5 points, 1.1 assists, 1.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
Jamiya Carter signed to Claflin University to continue her track and field career. In her senior season, Carter competed in the 800 meter run for Westwood. She set a personal-best time at the 5A Region meet with a fifth place finish from a 2:27.38 time. In the 2024 season, she also saw appearances in the 400 meter dash, 1600 meter run, and 3200 meter run. Carter was a member of Westwood’s 2023 track and field state championship team.
Zavier Johnson will play baseball for Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. Johnson played right field for the Redhawks in his senior season.
Sean Goddard will continue his football career at Newberry College. In his senior season, the wide receiver averaged 12.7 yards per reception. He had nine receptions for 114 yards and two touchdowns in six games played. Goddard was also a member of Westwood’s boys’ basketball team, where he averaged 4.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game over two seasons.
Larry Brown, III plans to continue his basketball career at the collegiate level. Brown was named All-Region following his senior season, where he averaged 9.4 points, 2.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.5 rebounds per game in 17 games played.
