BLYTHEWOOD – Westwood High School lead custodian, Robert Harris, was named the Spirit of Sport State Recipient by the National Federation of High Schools. Harris’s award was announced last week in the South Carolina High School League’s (SCHSL) TuesNews, a weekly online newsletter located on the league’s website.

Aside from his custodial duties, the SCHSL says that Harris is “consistently present at home events and works tirelessly behind the scenes to create an environment where success can thrive.

An excerpt from the TuesNews says that “Mr. Harris embodies the Spirit of Sport through his selflessness, dedication, and unwavering support of our athletics programs. His presence is a cornerstone of our community, and [Westwood is] better because of his efforts.”

According to the SCHSL’s website, the Spirit of Sport Award is annually conferred to eight recipients as well as one national recipient.

The League’s website says, “This award seeks to recognize those individuals who exemplify the ideas of the positive spirit of sport that represent the core mission of education-based athletics.”
