FORT MILL – Last year, Blythewood’s season was marked by near misses. The Bengals went 4-0 in nonregion games, but finished the season 6-5 after dropping four Region 5-5A games and a road playoff loss to Clover. Three of those losses by seven points or less.
Going into this year, a revamped Bengals team hit the road to Nation Ford and overcame a 27-14 halftime deficit by shutting out the Falcons offense in the second half en route to a 34-27 victory.
Junior quarterback James Veasey, who was undefeated the year prior at the junior-varsity level, led the Bengals with two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass to senior Ben Hendrix. Senior Braden Marye and sophomore Landyn Strong also had touchdown runs.
Veasey finished the night 19-for-28 in passing for 193 yards with the touchdown strike to Hendrix and one interception. Veasey also rushed 17 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bengals had 181 rushing yards.
Nation Ford quarterback Kason Canupp went 22-for34 for 375 yards and four touchdowns. Canupp also rushed 13 times for 117 yards.
Blythewood travels to Midland Valley Friday. The Mustangs whipped visiting J.L. Mann 46-21 Friday.
