WINNSBORO – Complimentary football was on display Friday night as Fairfield Central shut out Andrew Jackson at home for a 35-0 win.
The Griffins put up 14 in the first quarter and held a 21-0 lead at halftime. They scored once more in the third and closed out the fourth with another touchdown to take the win over the Volunteers.
With the majority of their ball-movement in the run game, the Griffin offense rallied 379 all-purpose yards. Ty’quarius Shannon led the Griffins on the ground, rushing for 142 yards and a score in just four carries. Kaden Diggs tallied 76 yards and a touchdown in 9 carries.
Sharing time under center with Dre Walker and Kamauri Jones, Diggs was three-for-five in passing with 92 yards and two touchdown passes – a 25-yarder to Walker and one to Kenyan Douglas for 14 yards. Jones completed three passes for 10 yards.
The Griffin defense had big plays and put up big numbers as well. Not only did they hold the Volunteers to just 51 yards on the ground in their 29 attempts, they came up with two interceptions and Keylin Culp returned a blocked field goal for a 95- yard score. Andrew Jackson quarterback Logan Neal was 6 for 16 in passing with two interceptions – one by Dre Walker and the other into the hands of Kingston Peay.
Chantz Hemphill and Dre Walker led with three solo tackles each. Hemphill had a sack and two hurries. Walker had 10 total tackles.
Now 4-2 on the season, the Griffins open Region 3-2A at home against Mid-Carolina (2-4) Friday. The Rebels fell 41-24 to Batesburg-Leesville (3-2) last week.
