AIKEN – Blythewood senior Jacob Powell took second place Saturday in the boys 5A Division 1 Cross Country run at the Aiken Steeplechase course with a time of 15 minutes, 25.13 seconds.
Senior Anna Kelly led all Bengals runners in the girls race, finishing third with a time of 18:34.44.
Powell’s time was less than five seconds behind boys top finisher Luke Hurley of Boiling Springs, who finished with a time of 15:20.74.
J.L. Mann, which finished with all five runners as top-25 finishers, won the boys race with a total of 74 points. Blythewood finished in 10th place with a total score of 248.
Bengals runners behind Powell were senior Johnathon Lenker (49th), junior Anthony Knight (57th), senior Dillan Boyer (59th), eighth-grader Rodney Johnson (81st), and senior Austin Dwiggins (83rd).
Clover’s Ella Nighbor was the top individual finisher in the girls race with a time of 17:37.78, with Taylor Blackwelder of Summerville coming in second with a time of 18:17.27.
The Blue Eagles won the girls meet with a total score of 87 points. Blythewood runners finished 11th with 226 points.
Bengals runners behind Kelly were freshman Paige Kelly (44th), senior Scarlett Baker (48th), freshman Madeline Lowery (63rd), and senior Lauren Benson (70th).
