Eagles stumble, eye rebound at King

WINNSBORO – After a double-digit win over Anderson Christian on Dec. 9, Richard Winn’s boys hit their first roadblock of the season: Laurens Academy.

On Richard Winn’s home court, Laurens downed the Eagles 44-26 for their first loss of the young season. Senior Bennett Nicholson led Eagle scorers with 15 points. Walker Blackwelder had a team-high nine rebounds and three blocks.

The Eagle girls also fell to Laurens, a traditional powerhouse in 2A SCISA girls’ basketball. The Laurens girls claimed a 44-25 win over Richard Winn.

The Eagle girls crossed over Highway 321 for a Dec. 16 game at Fairfield Central. The Griffins took down Richard Winn 54-32.

Both Eagle teams are slated to jump into region play on Friday, Dec. 19 at King Academy. They host their annual holiday tournament on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30.

In day one action, the Eagle boys will face Midlands STEM at 3:30 p.m.; the girls are scheduled to play Oakbrook Prep at 7 p.m. On day two, the boys will play Emmanuel Christian at 3:30 p.m. and the girls will play Midlands STEM at 7 p.m.
