WINNSBORO – Still looking for their first region win of the season, Fairfield Central’s girls almost found it against Chester last week. The Cyclones managed to hold on for a 37-25 win over the Griffins.
An explosive third quarter propelled Fairfield’s boys to a dominant 68-26 win over Chester.
Defense dictated the tempo, as the Griffins combined for 17 steals. Chester struggled to score, putting up only 11 points in the first half and 15 in the second.
While the Griffins held a steady 23-11 lead at halftime, they heated up in the second half. In the third quarter alone, Fairfield erupted for 26 points—matching Chester’s total score for the entire game—to effectively put the contest out of reach.
Junior Kamauri Jones finished with a team-high 13 points, five rebounds, and eight steals.
Seniors Khaleb Feaster and Rashawn Brown added steady leadership. Feaster chipped in eight points, five rebounds, and four assists, and three steals. Brown added seven points, three assists, and three.
With five remaining region games on their schedule, the Griffin boys (4-1) are nipping at the heels of Clinton (5-0) in the region standings.
Fairfield hosted Clinton on Wednesday, but scores were not available by The Voice’s press deadline.
Clinton swept the Griffins earlier this month, but claimed only an eight-point win over the boys. Both teams travel to Eau Claire on Friday. Tip off for the girls is set at 6 p.m.; the boys game will follow.
