Ted Donovan Lybrand of Blythewood, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026 after a long illness.
He was born April 23, 1947 in Columbia, S.C. to Raymond Lybrand and Doris Eastman Lybrand.
After joining the army, he received training in numerous sites before participating in intelligence operations in Vietnam, Taiwan, and Korea as part of the Army Security Agency whose motto was “In God we trust, all others we monitor.” He was employed by the National Guard as well as being a member of the Reserves. He worked with the Civil Air Patrol and obtained his pilot’s license.
Upon his retirement from the National Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer 4, he worked with the Councils of Government in Greenville and as a consultant to assist county and local government. He then moved to Florida. He was employed as Human Resources Director with the city of Orlando and later Children’s Home Society of Florida.
He returned to S.C. after his remarriage.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Mason Lybrand, his daughter Rebecca Lybrand Johnson and husband Kam, his grandson Benjamen Johnson and wife Anastasia, his granddaughter, Courtney Anderson and husband Tyler, his great grandchildren Maverick, Teagan, and Adley Johnson and Liam Anderson, his sister Donna Lybrand Mooney and husband Chris, his nephew Nicholas Mooney and wife Shannon, and their children Gavin and Khloe, his niece Lauren Mooney, and ex-wife Lian Sargent.

Ted’s life was a gift to all, full of love, and a man of God.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, S.C. 29223 on Friday, February 20, 2026, with a graveside service to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
