Exit 24 traffic pattern alterations to begin March 19

BLYTHEWOOD – Several traffic pattern changes are coming to Exit 24 in Blythewood, and construction work is expected to begin March 19, according to SCDOT officials.

  1. The existing loop ramp from US 21 southbound onto I-77 southbound will be closed and demolished to allow for the planned widening of I-77.
  2. A yield sign will be installed on US 21 northbound where it enters the on ramp to 1-77 southbound.
  3. A left turn lane (see green line) and traffic signals will be added to US 21 southbound where it will turn left onto the on-ramp to I-77 southbound.
  4. Two left turn lanes (see green line) will be added to the I-77 northbound off-ramp where it connects to US 21 southbound. The existing free-flow right turn lane onto US 21 northbound will not be impacted by these changes.
  5. A traffic signal will be installed where the northbound I-77 off-ramp connects to US 21 southbound.
