Veda Faye Marthers passed away at home on February 17, 2026, at the age of 99. She was born in the Greenbrier community at the Brooks home place to the late Oscar Raymond and Sara Veda Miller Brooks. Faye graduated from Greenbrier school and graduated from Columbia College with a degree in business. She married her high school sweetheart William Claude Marthers Jr. on November 28, 1953. She was a wonderfully devoted wife and homemaker, and a loving, patient mother to Jennifer Brooks Marthers and William Claude Marthers III. Faye was a lifetime and devoted member of Crooked Run Baptist Church. She was a choir member raising her God given voice in solos and duets with her cousins and brother, Miller Brooks. She served as GA leader, Bible School teacher, and church treasurer.
In her early years she was active in the Yellow Jasmine Garden Club winning numerous awards for her arrangements. In her later years she loved spending time at her “Cottage by the Sea” with her sweetheart and cousins, Adelaide Brooks and Clyde Brooks Douglass. Faye and Claude spent hours sitting and walking hand in hand on the beach. They loved beach music, watching the shaggers and a good seafood meal at Hoskins.
If asked what her Mama was like Jennifer’s response was, The Walton’s TV show mama, Olivia Walton. A grand Southern Lady and cook and a mama who could be counted on no matter what.
She supported Jennifer in her equestrian and dog endeavors and Claudie’s love of motorcycles and dogs. Though these endeavors often left her praying for their safety.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Jennifer Brooks Marthers; her son, William Claude Marthers, III. Her nieces Janice Raye Brooks, Veda Sandra Brooks, and her nephew, Harold Miller Brooks, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Crooked Run Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 5-7 o’clock PM at Pope Funeral Home.
