The Voice of Blythewood & Fairfield County

Change is Good

Some rather ambitious changes are afoot here at your local community newspaper, not the least of which is this, our first weekly edition.

As Blythewood grows, so grows The Independent Voice, and we are delighted to have our readers and advertisers along with us for the ride as we expand our coverage area to include our neighbors in Fairfield County. Once upon a time, Blythewood was part of Fairfield County; and although the lines on the map have long since moved, there remain many connections between the two communities. Many there are who live in Fairfield, but spend their work days in Blythewood – and vice versa. Ridgeway, just over the County line, is an oasis of boutiques where many Blythewood residents spend their shopping hours, while Blythewood offers many amenities Fairfield County residents just can’t find on their side of the County line.

The relationship between Blythewood and Fairfield has also sparked some lively sports rivalries as well. Although the scheduling has changed for the present, the football programs at Blythewood and Fairfield Central high schools have squared off in some remarkable matches in recent years, and this year, Westwood High School opens their inaugural season with the Griffins.

It is our goal that expansion of The Voice into Fairfield County will provide a kind of bridge between these sister communities.

In addition to the expansion of the newspaper, readers may have noticed a slightly different “look” to these pages. It is nothing drastic, of course, but, for one thing, new fonts have been adopted in an effort to make the copy herein easier to read. We have also tightened up and streamlined our layout – again, in an effort to make the newspaper more reader friendly.

In addition to all the changes in our print edition, we have launched our new Web site today. Readers can keep up to date on breaking news and sports, browse photos, enjoy our features and editorials at www.BlythewoodOnline.com. Our Fairfield County readers can enjoy the same valuable content at www.FairfieldCountyVoice.com.

Changes aside, our readers should know that The Voice remains your locally owned and operated source of community news. We are just what our name says we are – an independent voice for the people of Blythewood; only now, that voice speaks in Fairfield County as well.
