BHS Drama wins SCTA competition

Imani Haragrave and Niara Hargrave were named to the state All Star Cast for excellence in acting.

AIKEN – The Blythewood High School Drama Department’s original production of “Growing Up Wonderland” won first place out of a field of 32 at the South Carolina Theatre Association’s High School One-Act Play Festival held the weekend of November 2-5 at USC Aiken.

Seniors Imani and Niara Hargrave were named to the state “All Star Cast” for excellence in acting.  The production received the distinction of “Best Technical Design” for its scenic, costume, lighting, and sound design.

The first place finish qualifies Blythewood’s cast and crew to represent South Carolina at the Southeastern Theatre Conference, the largest regional theatre conference in the country. In addition to performing, students will have the opportunity to attend performances, college auditions and professional workshops.

To help pay for the trip to the Southeastern Theatre Conference, the cast of “Growing Up Wonderland” will raise funds by presenting “A Christmas Carol” at The Farm at Ridgeway Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 6 and 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $10 and will go on sale at the BHS front office beginning November 28.
