From the Pulpit: Here Comes the Snow

Snow it is so very pretty when it falls, but we all know the havoc that snow can cause. Where there is snow, people fall and hurt themselves, individuals have auto accidents, and then there is the shoveling!

Now even though I am not a fan of snow, there is one aspect of snow that has always fascinated me. When a blanket of snow falls over the landscape, it makes everything look so pure and perfect. Without question, snow paints a beautiful picture.

I believe the Lord used this particular aspect of snow as He spoke in Isaiah (1:18) concerning the beauty of forgiveness He offers us. This verse reads, “‘Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…’”

Truly, sin defiles and dirties our souls. If we want a relationship with God, we must allow Him to cleanse our souls. He does that through the blood of Jesus, His Son (Colossians 1:19-22; Revelation 1:5). The cleansing God gives is aptly described by God Himself as having the appearance of snow. Most certainly, God’s forgiveness makes us as pure and as perfect as fallen snow.

So when the snow falls at my house, I will not think about the potential of falling or getting into a car accident or even the shoveling that will take place; rather, I will think about the beauty of God’s forgiveness. I will think about how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to have my soul continually cleansed by the blood of Christ. For this reason I say, “Let it snow, let it snow!”
