From the Pulpit: 10 Reasons to Rejoice

We are commanded to rejoice in the Lord. Philippians (4:4) says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” God’s people throughout history both have rejoiced and have called for others to rejoice. Psalm (32:11) says, “Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” And again, Psalm (98:4) states, “Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.”

Let us now give ourselves ten reasons why we should rejoice in the Lord. We should rejoice in the Lord:

  1. Because God is our defender. (Psalm 5:11; 27:6)
  2. Because God gives awesome counsel. (Psalm 16:7-11)
  3. Because God provides us with salvation. (Psalm 35:9; Isaiah 61:10)
  4. Because we have the opportunity to worship God with others. (Psalm 42:4)
  5. Because God restores us when we repent. (Psalm 51:7-12; Luke 15:7,10)
  6. Because God is a righteous Judge. (Psalm 67:4)
  7. Because we belong to Christ. (John 15:11)
  8. Because the kingdom of God is supposed to be about joy. (Romans 14:17)
  9. Because we have been blessed beyond measure. (Ephesians 1:3)
  10. Because heaven will be a faithful Christian’s forever home. (I Peter 1:8,9)
