Vote April 6 for Winnsboro mayor, council

WINNSBORO – Of the 2,231 registered voters in the Town of Winnsboro, 111 have already voted in person for mayor and two town council members. Voter Registration Deputy Director Jackie Beaver estimates her office has received less than 50 mailed-in votes as of Wednesday, March 31.

Voting day is Tuesday, April 6, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Only residents of the town who are registered can vote in this election.

Nocola Hemphill and current town councilman John McMeekin are running for mayor. Two seats in the Winnsboro Town Council race are up for election.

Incumbent Janice Bartell Prather, District 2, is unopposed in her bid for a second term. Bartell was first elected in 2017.

James Jae Burroughs, 36, is unopposed in his quest for the District 4 seat which is being vacated by mayoral candidate John McMeekin.

“We have had 191 requests for absentee ballots,” Beaver said. “Voters have until 5.pm. Monday, April 5th, to cast an in-person ballot at our office and have until 5 p.m. Friday, April 2nd, to return all signed absentee by mail applications to our office.  This is the last day we can mail out a ballot.  The deadline for voters to return all mail in ballots to our office is 7 pm Tuesday, April 6th.”
