Town of Blythewood donates to First Responders

BLYTHEWOOD – Approximately 30 Richland County Sheriff’s deputies and Columbia/Richland firefighters were invited to lunch at the Manor on Tuesday, Aug. 26, where each of the county services received a $10,000 check from the Town’s general fund.

Mayor Sloan Griffin told the first responders that in last year’s FY 2024/25 budget, he created a dedicated line item for a Public Safety Grant.

“Through this grant, we were able to provide $10,000 each to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department,” Griffin said.

“Although the other Town Council members chose not to fund this grant in this year’s budget, I’ll strongly support an amendment to continue this important tradition,” he said.

A wings meal, provided by Blythewood Wings and Pub, followed the check presentation.
