As delivery activity increases this time of year, we want to ensure our community stays informed and protected.
Mail theft is a crime of opportunity, but there are several steps you can take to help reduce your risk:
- Retrieve mail and packages as soon as possible after delivery.
- Sign up for delivery alerts from your carrier so you know when items arrive.
- Consider secure delivery options such as a locked mailbox, PO Box, or package locker.
- Ask a trusted neighbor to pick up your mail if you will be away.
- Avoid leaving outgoing mail in your mailbox overnight—use USPS drop boxes when possible.
- Improve visibility by keeping the area around your mailbox well-lit.
- Consider installing security cameras or a doorbell camera to deter theft and assist investigators.
If you observe suspicious behavior around mailboxes or delivery vehicles, please report it immediately to the Sheriff’s Office. Your awareness and partnership help keep our community safe.
