BHS earns spot on 2025 AP Honor Roll

BLYTHEWOOD — Blythewood High School has been named to the 2025 Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll, receiving a Bronze distinction for its success in expanding college-level opportunities while maintaining student performance.

The College Board, which oversees the AP program, recognizes schools on the Honor Roll annually based on their commitment to increasing a college-going culture, providing students the chance to earn college credit, and maximizing overall college readiness.

According to data released by the school, 40 percent of Blythewood’s current senior class took at least one AP exam during their high school career. Notably, 30 percent of the seniors scored a 3 or higher on at least one exam—the score typically required to receive college credit at many universities. Furthermore, 14 percent of the senior class challenged themselves by taking five or more AP exams.

Ahmed Ali, Blythewood High’s assistant principal and AP coordinator, credited the achievement to the combined efforts of the faculty and the student body.

“We are very proud of the hard work and dedication that our AP teachers and students have achieved,” Ali said. “These are very rigorous courses, and our students’ high achievements prove they are ready for the challenges they will face in college and beyond.”

To support the growing demand for advanced coursework, Blythewood High currently offers 19 AP courses across 50 sections, staffed by 15 AP-certified teachers. School officials noted that those numbers continue to grow.

The AP School Honor Roll distinction is intended to highlight schools that not only encourage more students to try difficult coursework but also provide the support necessary for them to succeed.

“AP gives students the opportunity to engage with college-level work, earn college credit and placement, and build professional career skills they can use no matter what path they choose after high school,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “Congratulations to this year’s AP School Honor Roll recipients for proving it’s possible to expand participation in these rigorous courses and still drive strong performance.”

Blythewood High is one of several schools within Richland School District Two to be recognized by the College Board this year.
