Howell wins Beth Daniel tourney

Bryce Howell accepts the first place trophy from Beth Daniel, former USA Solheim Cup captain and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Bryce Howell of Blythewood won the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea golf tournament, played Aug. 7-8 at the Country Club of Charleston. Howell carded a final round of 68 to win his second South Carolina Junior Golf Association Championship. Paired with his first-round of 69, he shot 137 for the tournament to win by one stroke over Nicklaus Kennedy of London, Ontario, Canada. The tournament is designed to showcase the top juniors in the country and also includes several international players.

Howell accepted his trophy from tournament host Beth Daniel, a Charleston native, former USA Solheim Cup captain and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Howell has committed to play golf at Furman University. He is invited to play in the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational and the Bobby Chapman Invitational in the coming month.

Kelsey Badmaev of Blythewood shot 147 to finish ninth in the girls division. Kelli Murphy of Elgin, the Columbia Women’s City champion, was three shots back at 150.
