It Can’t be That Bad –

Gene may no longer be on the scene, but the Road Runner Café, a Winnsboro landmark on Kincaid Bridge Road, is still serving up some of the best food in the county.

Gene Kelly owned the Road Runner for 34 years, but last month sisters Ashley Suzanne and Rebecca Cassellas, with a little help from mom, Caroline Hall, re-opened the menu to hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken strips and fish. The restaurant is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and offers daily specials.

Apart from the rustic front porch, complete with picnic tables and festive lighting, one of the most familiar features of the Road Runner is the mural on the outside wall. While it certainly catches the eye, Hall said the family plans to paint over the mural and expand the restaurant to go along with the considerable refurbishing already completed by the new owners.

So, Winnsboro will soon be saying good-bye to the classic look of the old Road Runner, while at the same time saying hello, again, to the classic menu. Call them at 635-1600, or just stop by.

‘Worst food in the county?’ Well, you can’t believe everything you read, after all.
