Griffin Earns All-Star Honors

Raheim McDaniel

Fairfield Central defensive end/outside linebacker Raheim McDaniel was named to the North-South All Star Team roster last week. McDaniel, a senior weighing in at 220-pounds and standing 6-foot-2, is one of the larger assets for head coach Demetrius Davis’s Griffins, as well as one of the most adaptable.

“Defensive end, outside linebacker, chief cook and bottle washer,” Davis joked. “He’s lined up at tight end. He’s one of the most versatile players we have. Having him out there on the edge is a tremendous advantage for us.”

McDaniel even caught a pass for a touchdown earlier this season at Columbia, one of three receptions for 59 yards this season. But the real meat of McDaniel’s is on defense, where he leads the Griffins with 14 sacks on the season. McDaniel also has 48 solo tackles and 10 assists.

“It’s a great honor for him and a great honor for Fairfield County to have him represent us,” Davis said. “But I still need him for four more all-star caliber games before he goes.”

The North-South game will be Dec. 8 at Myrtle Beach High School’s Doug Shaw Stadium at 12:30 p.m. Tickets will be $15 at the gate. Up to two children (under 7) admitted free with one adult ticket holder.
