Finkley Herring

Columbia – Finkley Herring, 85, of Columbia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and family, Monday, March 4, 2013. Born in Tabor City, N.C. on Sept. 23, 1927, he was a son of the late Henry and Cornie Strickland Herring. Finkley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. An active member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years, he served as a deacon, a member of the Finance Committee and was a faithful member of his Sunday School class. Above all, he enjoyed his family.

Finkley is survived by his wife, Gracie Powell Herring; and son, Roger Herring and his wife, Charlene, of Ridgeway; granddaughters, Mandi Bello (Eddie), and Courtney Herring; great granddaughters, Sophie Bello and Hazel Bello. In addition to his parents, Finkley was preceded in death by his brothers, Gurnie, Bady, Lester and Henry Herring; and sisters, Faye Strickland and Hester Herring.

The funeral service for Mr. Herring will be held 2 o’clock, Wednesday, March 6, at Jackson Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Walter Mack Burriss officiating. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 1 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jackson Creek Baptist Church, 7778 Two Notch Road, Columbia, S.C. 29223.
