Soccer: Richland Northeast drops Redhawk boys, girls

The Westwood Redhawks soccer team (1-13, 1-5) was in action Saturday for a non-conference game at Richland Northeast (10-5, 5-3) out of Region IV-4A. The Cavaliers defeated Westwood 9-2 off a hat trick from Richland Northeast’s Donovan Waddell.

Sebastian Gutierrez and Tyler Johnson each netted a goal for the Redhawks. Westwood has now dropped five games in a row with their lone victory of the season coming against Lower Richland, 6-1, back on March 22.

The Redhawks are in a span of five games away from home and play at Dreher (11-3-1, 5-0) tonight (April 19) with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Dreher defeated Westwood 3-1 back on March 12.

The Westwood Lady Redhawks (0-11, 0-6) were edged out by the Lady Cavaliers of Richland Northeast Saturday on penalty kicks. After a scoreless regulation, neither team could breakthrough in extra time either. Westwood fell 2-1 on penalty kicks and are still in search of their first varsity win.

The Lady Redhawks are on the road tonight (April 19) to take on the number two team in Region IV-3A, Dreher (11-4, 4-2). Westwood will try to avoid the season sweep by Dreher after an 11-0 loss back on March 12. Kickoff for tonight’s game is set for 7:15 p.m.
