Lady Bengals Capture Region Soccer Crown

The Blythewood Lady Bengals soccer team (16-3, 9-1) is this year’s Region IV 4A champion. Their only region defeat came on April 9 in a tight 1-0 loss to Spring Valley (13-5, 8-2), who finished second in the region. Blythewood is coming off a 7-0 win over Sumter on April 25. In 19 games the Lady Bengals have given up only seven goals and have never given up more than two, which happened only once. Blythewood will close out the regular season Thursday (May 2) with a game at Lexington (16-3). The Lady Wildcats are tied for the top spot in Region V 4A and have won their last three games in a row by a combined score of 13-1. After the regular season finale, the Lady Bengals will set their sights on a state championship. The 2013 state playoffs begin Monday (May 6). Blythewood will face the fourth place team out of Region III 4A (either Nation Ford or Lancaster).

The Blythewood boys’ soccer team (12-7, 7-3) edged out Lugoff-Elgin 4-3 on the road Tuesday. With the win the Bengals moved into a tie for second place in Region IV 4A with Spring Valley (10-8, 7-3). The Bengals are winners in their past four games including two region games to move into that second place spot. Blythewood wrapped up their regular season at Northwestern (17-1-1, 14-0) on Wednesday (May 1). Northwestern is at the top of Region III 4A with their only loss of the year coming from Myrtle Beach 5-3 back on March 2. Blythewood will begin their playoff run on Tuesday (May 7). The teams have yet to be determined.
