Aiken Sweeps Lady Bengals

BLYTHEWOOD – The Lady Bengals of Blythewood suffered a tough loss Tuesday night as they were swept 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) by the Aiken Green Hornets at home. The Lady Bengals gave a strong effort, battling each match to the wire, but came up short. Rather than disappointed with the loss, Blythewood head coach Mary Hall is very pleased with her young team’s effort against a tough, more experienced team.

“You’re always disappointed with a loss, but you’re playing the state runner-up against six freshmen,” said Hall.

Blythewood started every match aggressively, but mistakes and miscues, made things tough for the Lady Bengals.

“We need to do better of never giving up on points at all,” Hall said.

With a young squad this year, Hall believes this team will have a promising season behind juniors Bijonae Jones and DiAhrah Hall.

“We have to stick with our heat,” said Hall. “Jones was on fire and Hall is just phenomenal.”

The Lady Bengals travel to face off against the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes Thursday. They hit the road again next week for a Sept. 11 match at Lexington before returning home to host Spring Valley on Sept. 19.
