SCISA Honors Eagle Fallstars

WINNSBORO – Richard Winn Academy is proud to announce that five of the RWA fall athletes, Carson Justice, Jaycie Johnson, Matt Taylor, John Coleman and Austin Knox, were honored with postseason awards by the SCISA Coaches Association.

Justice and Johnson were not only named to the All Region volleyball team but also selected to participate in the SCISA North-South Volleyball All Star game. That event was held at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School’s gymnasium on Oct. 28.

Johnson, a sophomore, compiled season stats over 60 sets played. She had 128 kills for a .321 hitting percentage, 34 aces, 21 solo blocks and a total of 52 blocks altogether.

Justice, a senior, had 128 kills over 53 sets played for a .258 hitting percentage. Justice also had 27 total blocks, 69 digs and 53 aces.

Both girls enjoyed being participants on the winning North squad at the All Star game event.

Following the conclusion of the 2013 football season, Coleman and Taylor were selected to the All Region 8-man football team while Knox was named as the Region Athlete of the Year.

Coleman, a sophomore, compiled 967 yards rushing on 138 attempts as well as 19 catches for 357 yards receiving, and had a punt, a kick-off and an interception return for TDs.

Taylor, a junior, anchored the quarterback position for the Eagles and rushed for 1,042 yards on 150 attempts and passed for 909 yards with a 55 percent completion rate.

Knox, a senior, rushed for 802 yards on 141 attempts, passed for 126 yards (5/5) and had 13 catches for 179 yards. In addition to this honor, Knox was chosen to participate in the annual SCISA North-South All Star football game held on Dec. 7. The game took place at Orangeburg-Prep and featured independent school standout football athletes from across the state.

In that game, Knox started on defense, playing outside linebacker, and was in on several tackles in addition to making one tackle for a loss. About halfway through the second quarter he went in as quarterback and played that position for the remainder of the game. Not only did his North squad win the game, but Knox rushed for one TD and threw for another as well as completed a 2-point conversion pass.
