8 Bengals Ink Athletic Scholarships

Blythewood High School recognized these eight seniors last week who have accepted offers to continue their athletic careers on the collegiate level – (front row): Aaron Peak (football), Lynard Jamison (football), Alex Baker (girls soccer), Hunter Wooten (baseball); (back row): Jalen Williams (football), Mike Lantz (cross country and track), Aaron Dahm (baseball) and Alex Boulware (baseball).

BLYTHEWOOD — Football player Aaron Peak, son of Darrell and Peggy Peak, has committed to play for James Madison University next fall. Peak, a two-year starter for Blythewood under head coach Dan Morgan, played defensive back for the Bengals. He earned All-Region honors and was selected to the North-South All-Star football game in 2013. Peak also returned kicks for Blythewood and was featured in numerous offensive sets in 2013. Peak set a new school record with 10 blocked kicks in his career, besting the previous record of six set by NFL Pro Bowl player Justin Bethel.

 Football player Lynard Jamison, son of Theron and Rania Jamison, has signed to play at South Carolina State University. Jamison, who played running back and receiver for the head coach Dan Morgan in 2013, ended his senior season with 20 touchdowns while leading the Bengals to the 4A playoffs. Jamison had 1,056 yards receiving and 352 yards rushing for Blythewood and earned All-Region & All-Area honors.

Soccer player Alex Baker, daughter of Brad and Amy Baker, signed her national letter of intent to play at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. Baker is a defender and mid-fielder at Blythewood for head coach Kathy Knight. Baker was named as an All-Region and All-State player in 2013 as she helped her team to back-to-back region championships. Baker served as a team captain in 2013 and will serve in the same capacity for her senior season. Off the field, Baker is in the top 10 percent of her class and was crowned Miss Blythewood in 2014.

 Baseball player Hunter Wooten, son of Brian and Shannon Wooten, has committed to play for the University of South Carolina at Lancaster in 2015. Wooten is a pitcher for head coach Barry Mizzell at Blythewood. The right-handed pitcher was a member of the 2013 Bengal squad that finished second in the state, losing in the final game of the 4A state championship series before more than 6,200 fans at Carolina Stadium. Wooten averaged a strikeout an inning on the mound for the Bengals in 2013.

Football player Jalen Williams, son of Kimberly Williams, has committed to play for Clemson University. Williams was a two-year letter winner for Blythewood under head coach Dan Morgan. Williams was named an All-Region selection in 2013. The linebacker was selected to the North-South All-Star football game in 2013 where he took home North Defensive MVP honors. Williams totaled 95 tackles for Blythewood, including nine tackles for a loss, while helping lead the Bengals the playoffs as a senior.

 Runner Mike Lantz, son of Brett and Kathleen Lantz, has signed to run for The Citadel. Lantz ran both cross country and track and field at Blythewood for coaches Patrick Kelly, Andre Cook and Mark George. Lantz is a four-time All-State runner in cross country and holds the school records in cross country, as well as the one mile and two mile races in track. He was the Region IV-4A Champion in the 2012 Cross Country meet while finishing third in the state in 2012 and sixth in the state in 2013. Lantz was selected to participate in the 2013 Shrine Bowl All-Star run. Lantz will have the opportunity to run with his older brother Raven at The Citadel next year.

 Baseball player Aaron Dahm, son of James and Mary Dahm, signed to play at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster next year. Dahm, a senior outfielder, has earned two varsity letters playing for head coach Barry Mizzell at Blythewood. Dahm hit .371 in 2013 and earned All-Region and All-State honors while helping lead Blythewood to the 4A Upperstate Championship.

 Baseball player Alex Boulware, son of Sam and Myra Boulware, signed to play at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster next year. Boulware is a pitcher for head coach Barry Mizzell at Blythewood. The left-handed pitcher was a member of the 2013 Bengal squad that finished second in the state, losing in the final game of the 4A state championship series before more than 6,200 fans at Carolina Stadium. Boulware was named to Perfect Game’s 2013 Top Prospect Team.
