Winnsboro’s Brother Lyles, a World War II veteran, shows off a copy of Life Magazine commemorating the June 6, 1944 D-Day landings in Normandy, France, during last week’s meeting of the Fairfield WWII Committee. Lyles serves as honorary Chairman of the Committee, the brainchild of Bill Haslett (left). The Committee is selling memorial bricks to help pay for a World War II memorial to be placed in the Mt. Zion Green Memorial Park. The monument will be built by Grady Phillips (right) and his Phillips Granite Co. Prices range from $100 to $225. Order before Dec. 15 by calling 803-815-1010, or order online at www.brickmarkers.com/donors/fairfield.html.
