WINNSBORO – The Lady Eagles of Richard Winn opened the Booster Club Christmas Tournament at Richard Winn Academy with a dominating 62-47 victory over the Chesnee Lady Eagles Monday evening.

The Eagles were led once again by Jaycie Johnson on both sides of the court early in the first half. The full court press by the Lady Eagles of Richard Winn helped push them to an early lead over Chesnee. Chesnee challenged the Lady Eagles, forcing them into early turnover issues that prevented Richard Winn from putting the game out of reach in the first half.

Sloppy play from the Lady Eagles started the second half as turnovers killed any chances for Richard Winn to break the game wide open. Johnson led the Lady Eagles on an 8-0 run, however, to end the drought that plagued them in the early parts of the third quarter. Chesnee continued to push the Lady Eagles as their fast pace continued keep them in the game.

Chesnee’s play going into the fourth quarter led to them cutting the lead to 6 with 3:14 remaining in the game. The Lady Eagles came out of a late timeout to end the game on a 10-0 run and push the lead back to double digits.

The Lady Eagles play in the championship game Tuesday at 5 p.m.
