BLYTHEWOOD – The Lady Redhawks opened their season Monday night in dramatic fashion, overcoming a 19-15 halftime deficit to bump off the cream of the Class 2A crop, the Lady Raiders of Keenan, 41-40, in overtime.
The Lady ‘Hawks scored 22 second-half points to bounce off the mat and force the issue, holding Keenan to 18 in the process. Westwood’s defense held the Lady Raiders to just a 3-spot in the spare frame while the offense dumped in one better for the win.
Mya Belton and Kayla Atkins led the Lady Redhawks with 10 points each, followed by 8 from Mikeya Matthews. Atkins was also 4-of-6 from the stripe on the night.
The Lady Redhawks are now 1-0 on the young season and host Richland Northeast tonight (Dec. 5) at 6 p.m. and Lower Richland Saturday (Dec. 6) at 2 p.m.
